It has become a running joke, no pun intended, between matt and I. Every night before I head to bed, I say " I am going to go on a jog in the morning". Bascially I am preparing him to be on call with the kids if I am still gone when they wake up. It used to be so easy for me to get out of bed at 5:30 a.m. and go for a 40 minute job--pre baby #4~! Now I can barely get out of bed to use the bathroom at night! It is amazing how tired my body is and I am getting plenty of sleep each night. So, last night I said "Matt, I am REALLY going to make it tomorrow, I am going running." With this said, G goes to bed around 6:30 every night and he gets up at least one time to eat during the night. I am fine with this because I would never expect him to sleep for 12 hours w/o wanting to nurse once. ONCE i say~! I woke up this morning to my alarm and I rolled over and told matt I was not going because G slept all night and I am engorged, which was very true. He proceeds to tell me it is raining anyway (which it was not), so I feel much better and go back to sleep, so proud of baby g for sleeping through the night. Later that morning, say 6:45 or so, W, O, and K are all awake, as am I, but G is still sleeping. Tired little boy, I think to myself. Of course, this is after I ran upstairs to make sure he is still breathing. I hate that feeling, but I do it with everyone of my kids still.
Now it is 7:30 and g is still asleep and has been for 13 hours straight, or so I think. Matt comes in and asks if the monitor should be on channel A or B because it sounds funny! IT SHOULD BE ON A---GRAY A! Well, it was on B all night long. Motherhood=guilt. This is what my mother in law told me once and I believe it is true. I imagined my poor little baby crying all night and me, sound asleep in bed, not hearing a sound. I tell myself, he probably didn't even cry, but I know this is not true because he is obviously exhausted from the night because he is STILL asleep. Around 8:00, I hear him playing in his crib. I run upstairs and pick him up and he is so happy to see me. He is not mad, angry--he loves me so much still. I imagine this is how the Lord loves us. Even though I often do my own thing and ignore his gentle nudges and convictions, He loves me anyway, despite what I have done when I come back to him! Like the prodigal son story! His grace is sufficient for me. I know that to compare God's love with a child is as close as you can get in describing love in earthly terms. For God even said, we need to have faith like a child.
